Tulip Tables Made in Italy: Eero Saarinen Style vs Cheap Replicas

A Tulip table should not just look elegant—it should feel solid, balanced, and reliable every single day.

The Tulip table, originally conceived by Eero Saarinen, remains one of the most iconic choices for modern dining spaces. Its sculptural central base opens up the room, eliminating visual clutter and creating a lighter, more refined atmosphere. Inspired by Saarinen’s original vision, these tables reinterpret the concept through enhanced materials and contemporary production standards, delivering both aesthetic purity and everyday performance.
The continuous, flowing lines give it a timeless presence that works effortlessly in both contemporary and more classic interiors.

The difference is not just visual..

it’s how the table feels to live with every day.

Yet the real difference is not always visible at first glance. Many tables may appear similar in photos, but once used every day, the gap in quality becomes clear—through stability, materials, and the way the table performs over time.

What Most Tulip Tables Get Wrong

Italian CTS vs Cheap Replicas (Quick Comparison)

  • Base: One-piece cast aluminium vs bolted multi-part base
  • Stability: Zero movement vs wobble over time
  • Top thickness: 20–25 mm vs 12–15 mm
  • Materials: Real marble / Laminam / Dekton vs MDF veneer
  • Lifespan: 10+ years vs 2–4 years
Much of the market is built around reproducing the appearance of a Tulip table rather than its performance. At first glance, the difference is difficult to detect. The proportions look right, the finish appears convincing, and the overall design feels familiar.
But with regular use, the underlying compromises begin to surface. Movement can develop at the base, affecting stability. Thinner tops often lack the solidity expected from a dining table, and surface finishes tend to mark more easily than anticipated. These are not immediate defects, but gradual issues that change how the table feels and behaves over time. What is rarely visible online becomes evident in daily use. This is where construction and origin make the difference.

Italian Craftsmanship, Direct from Tuscany

We work directly with CTS Design, an artisan manufacturer in Siena, Tuscany, producing and exporting Tulip tables across the Europe. Each piece is made within a specialised Italian supply chain, ensuring consistent quality, precision, and attention to detail.
This is not a mass-market replica. It is a made-to-order piece designed to last.
Positioned between low-cost replicas and high-priced design icons, these tables offer a more balanced solution. They combine authentic craftsmanship, carefully selected materials, and structural integrity, without inflated branding costs. A wide range of sizes, finishes, and materials allows each table to be tailored to the space.

The real difference lies beneath the surface. Our base is cast in a single piece of aluminium, not assembled from multiple components. This eliminates weak points, ensuring long-term stability without movement or compromise. Finished in matte or gloss lacquer—available in white, black, or custom RAL colours—the base combines structural strength with a clean, essential design. The result is a solid, balanced foundation that supports the table over time, not just at first glance.

Marble Tops: Natural Character or Polyester Coating

Marble brings a level of depth and individuality that no other material can replicate. Each table is unique, shaped by natural veining and subtle variations that give the surface its distinctive character and visual presence. CTS offers a curated selection of prestigious marbles, from the soft elegance of Carrara and Statuarietto to the bold contrast of Nero Marquina, the richness of Emperador Dark, and the refined tones of Calacatta Oro and Verde Alpi.

Each option introduces a different atmosphere, from light and minimal to more dramatic and expressive interiors. The surface can be left in its natural finish to preserve the authentic feel of the stone, or treated with a polyester coating for a smoother, more protected result. The choice depends on whether the priority is purity of material or ease of maintenance. Explore our marble Tulip tables to find the finish that best defines your space.

Gres Ceramic Tops: The Practical Choice

CTS collaborates with leading ceramic manufacturers such as Laminam, Cosentino (Dekton), and Florim to ensure consistently high-quality porcelain stoneware tops. The 20 mm thickness allows a precise interpretation of the iconic Saarinen edge, combining visual depth with structural strength. The single central base removes the need for traditional legs, creating a cleaner silhouette and improving comfort around the table.

Available in a wide range of finishes and sizes, each piece integrates naturally into both residential and professional environments. Custom-made configurations are also available to meet specific project requirements.

Solid Wood Tops: Warmth and Natural Elegance

Wood brings a softer, more inviting feel to the Tulip table, creating a warmer and more relaxed atmosphere. Crafted from solid oak, each top highlights natural grain and subtle variations, making every piece unique. A protective finish preserves the surface while enhancing its character, with a range of tones from light natural oak to deeper walnut, cherry, or darker stains. With a 24 mm thickness and a structured internal build, the table remains stable over time while maintaining a refined, lightweight appearance.

Available in classic tones as well as full RAL and NCS colour ranges, each table can be customised in size, shape, and finish to suit different spaces. A versatile option, suitable for both residential and contract environments.

Extendable Tables

CTS extendable tables are available in round and oval shapes, with tops in laminate, wood, or ceramic. The synchronised extension system ensures smooth opening and secure locking, while maintaining a clean and balanced design. When closed, the table retains its original proportions. The extension leaf is stored separately and, depending on the finish, is either lacquered to match the ceramic top or made in the same material as the main surface for visual consistency.
